Motira

Motira Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 30, 2026

The short version

Motira has no accounts. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.

Nothing you type leaves your phone. Onni, the guide inside Motira, works entirely on your device, and so do breathing, sounds and programs.

Three things do reach the internet:

  1. Which content is free. Each time Motira opens, it asks Apple’s iCloud servers which content is currently free. That request carries nothing about you or what you do in the app, and it does not need you to be signed in to iCloud.
  2. Sounds and programs. Free content comes inside the app. Premium sounds and program audio download from our content server, which Cloudflare runs for us, and then stay on your phone. Those requests carry no account and nothing you typed.
  3. How the app is used. Motira tells us when things happen in the app, such as a program starting, a sound playing or a button being tapped, and when the app hits an error, so we can see what helps people and fix what breaks. These events are tied to a random ID that the app creates, not to your name or your Apple ID, and they never include anything you type or anything Onni says to you. You can turn this off in Profile.

Purchases are handled by Apple. If you subscribe to Motira Premium, Apple takes the payment. We never see your name, your Apple Account or your payment details.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, postal address, date of birth, contacts, photos, precise location, or your device’s advertising identifier.

There is no account and no sign-in. We hold no user record with your name or contact details, so there is nothing of that kind to hand over, sell, or lose.

We do not use advertising, tracking or attribution services, and Motira contains no advertising or marketing SDK. The one analytics service we use, PostHog, is described under “Usage analytics” below. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

We do not use your microphone and do not collect voice recordings. If you dictate a message using the microphone key on your phone’s keyboard, that key belongs to your phone, not to Motira. See “If you dictate instead of typing” below.

What happens when you use Onni

Onni matches what you type against a list of words and phrases stored inside the app, and shows a reply written in advance. No message is sent anywhere: not to us, not to a service provider, not to an AI model. Motira keeps no history of what you typed, and our usage analytics never include it.

If you dictate instead of typing. The microphone key on your keyboard is part of iOS, not part of Motira. Your phone converts what you say into text, working with Apple, and Motira receives only the finished text. We never receive audio and have no access to your microphone. That text is then treated exactly as if you had typed it: it stays on your phone. What Apple does with the audio is governed by Apple’s privacy policy, not by this one.

What reaches the internet

Which content is free

When Motira opens, it downloads a short list saying which programs and sounds are free, so we can change that without an app update. The list is kept in Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit), in a public area that any copy of the app can read without signing in. The request is the same for every user and contains nothing about you. Like any internet request, it shows Apple your device’s IP address, and Apple handles it under Apple’s own privacy policy. If it fails, Motira uses the last list it downloaded, or treats everything as free.

Sounds and programs

Free sounds and free programs come inside the app. The audio for Premium sounds and programs, and an updated list of what Motira offers, come from our content server, content.kitefern.com, which Cloudflare, a content delivery network, runs for us. Motira checks the list when it opens. It downloads a sound or a program’s audio the first time you play it, when you tap Download all in Profile, or, if you have Premium and are on Wi-Fi, ahead of time for the programs. Each download is kept on your phone, so it plays offline from then on.

These requests carry no account, no name and no usage-analytics ID. Like any internet request, each one reaches Cloudflare with your device’s IP address, basic details of the app and iOS version, and the address of the file, which shows which sound or program is being downloaded. Cloudflare handles them under its own privacy policy. We do not log these requests ourselves. If a request fails, Motira keeps using what it already has.

Usage analytics

Motira uses PostHog, an analytics service, to count how the app is used: which programs people start and finish, where they stop, which sounds, breathing exercises and screens they use, and how often they come back. We use this to decide what to improve and what to build next, and to find and fix errors.

What is sent.

Each of these also carries:

What is never sent. Anything you type or dictate, anything Onni shows you, whether a crisis message was shown, your answer to “What brings you here?” when the app first opens, the names of your saved mixes, your favorites, what you paid, and recordings of your screen.

Your IP address. Like any internet request, each event reaches PostHog with your device’s IP address. We have set PostHog to discard it rather than store it. PostHog uses it on arrival to estimate a rough location, such as your country and city, which is stored with the event; the address itself is then discarded.

Turning it off. Open Profile and turn off Share usage data. While it is off, Motira sends no usage events at all. The content check and the downloads described above still happen, because the app needs them to work.

Who holds it. PostHog stores the events for us, on servers in the United States, as our service provider. Events are deleted after one year.

Purchases

Motira Premium is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple takes the payment and holds your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never receive your name, your Apple Account, your card or your billing address.

To know whether Premium is on, Motira asks Apple’s StoreKit on your phone, which tells it the plan, whether you are in a free trial, and when the current period ends. That check happens on your device. We run no server and keep no list of who subscribes. If usage analytics is on, the events described above say when a trial or subscription starts and which plan, never the price, an order or transaction number, or your Apple Account.

Crisis messages

If a message appears to describe suicide, self-harm, or harming another person, Motira detects this on your phone and shows you crisis contact details instead of Onni’s usual reply. Like everything you type, the message is not sent anywhere.

We do not record that this happened. There is no crisis log on our servers or anywhere else, it is not counted in our usage analytics, and there is no flag on any record. We do not contact anyone on your behalf. Not emergency services, not a family member, not law enforcement. Motira cannot call for help. If you are in danger, you or someone with you must make that call.

What stays on your device

Motira stores a few things on your phone: your favorite sounds, your saved mixes, whether haptic feedback is on, the last breathing exercise you did with the length you chose, the most recent list of free content and of what Motira offers, the sounds and program audio you have downloaded, whether downloads may use cellular data, your answer to the first-run question and whether you have seen it, whether the Premium prices have loaded and whether the trial reminder has been shown, and the random ID and on/off setting used for usage analytics. Apart from that random ID, which is sent with each usage event, none of this leaves the device or is backed up to us.

Deleting the app removes all of it.

Audio

Free sounds come inside the app. Premium sounds and program audio are downloaded once, as described under “Sounds and programs” above, and kept on your phone; you can remove them in Profile. Everything plays from your device, with no streaming. If usage analytics is on, Motira records which sound you started, as described above. It never records anything you hear or say.

The crisis screens link to findahelpline.com, a directory of crisis lines by country, for users outside the United States. Opening it leaves Motira and enters your browser, where that site’s own privacy practices apply, not ours. We receive nothing when you tap it.

Children

Motira is intended for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it, and it is not directed to children. Because we collect no identifying information, we cannot determine any user’s age. Motira does not verify age.

If you believe a child has used Motira, deleting the app removes everything stored on the phone, and turning off Share usage data first stops any further events.

Where Motira operates

Motira is distributed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when the app’s behaviour changes, and the effective date above will change with it. What Apple does with the content check, and what Cloudflare does with content requests, is governed by their own terms, not ours, and can change without our involvement; we will correct this policy when we learn of a change.
